Can I live stream to Bluesky?
As of January 2025 the live streaming feature is presently unavailable on the Bluesky platform.
Bluesky is a decentralised social media platform established by Jack Dorsey. The platform places a strong emphasis on text-based content and operates on a protocol known as the Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT Protocol).
Bluesky serves as a fundamental demonstration of its potential applications. Upon the protocol's complete openness, there is a possibility of incorporating this feature.
In November 2024 we asked Bluesky if live streaming on the platform was on their roadmap. It took them a whole two months to respond to us at which point they said there were no current plans.
Given that the majority of social media platforms currently offer live broadcasting capabilities, it is conceivable that Bluesky may consider incorporating this feature. Nonetheless, Bluesky has explicitly stated that they do not intend to incorporate advertising, raising questions about the potential funding model for hosting live streams.
Is there a work around?
Yes, lots of other platforms offer streaming and then you can promote this on Bluesky.
